Veneers

Porcelain veneers are composed of thin ceramic layers that essentially replace tooth enamel. Similar to a contact lens for the eye, a veneer adheres to the outer front surface of a tooth. Minimal amounts of tooth structure needs to be removed to make room for the veneer. It’s pretty amazing how veneers can restore natural tooth form and enhance the appearance of the tooth. Porcelain veneers are an excellent solution for many esthetic imperfections such as poor color, staining, shape and tooth position. They are also an excellent option for managing stains in teeth that don’t respond to bleaching.

Veneers are much stronger than conventional white fillings on front teeth. White composite fillings need to be replaced and polished more often. Veneers if taken care of properly, can last anything from 5-15 years without having to replace the veneer or having to polish its surface.

Crowns

The term “cap” is used synonymously with crown. A crown replaces the entire outer form of a tooth, down to the gum level. Crowns are used when large amounts of tooth structure need to be replaced. Crowns can also create beautiful smiles for patients who’s teeth are worn due to grinding or enamel erosion. Like veneers, crowns are also excellent for changing tooth color and shape. On molar teeth strong ceramic crowns are the treatment of choice to obtain maximum strength and durability.
